Nickel-1-Naphthoxide complex compound was synthesized from the easily available starting materials. The structure of the complex ion was studied using quantum chemical calculations. The proton conductivity of this complex varied with time under 100% relative humidity (RH) and reached almost a constant value in 48 h. The proton conductivity of the complex is reversible, when the complex is dehydrated, the proton conductivity became that of dried sample and upon re-exposure to moisture its proton conductivity bounced back. The effect of temperature implied that the proton conductivity increased with temperature, suggesting a good solid-state proton conductor for the hydrogen – oxygen fuel cells at high temperature.
