Photoionization - interaction of atoms with strong fields

A review is given of recent investigations, both theoretical and experimental, that demonstrate the new phenomena in photoionization of atoms by strong laser light. The essential problems concerning autoionization, ionization by smooth laser pulses, above threshold ionization and near threshold ionization are summarized.
