New Historicism and the Study of Shakespeare

Influenced by the strategy of power of Michel Foucault,New Historicism pays more attention to historical and social ideological criticism,discusses the practice in Shakespeare 's drama from the combination of power and discourse,and puts forth efforts to excavate implicit subversion of leading ideology.In the study of shakespeare,it is not history and social ideology that has affected literary works but emphasizes the shaping role of literary works.The balanced point of literature and history from the angle of discourse and power has been found in the study of New Historicism,which not only brings new theoretical view point,but the demands of the human advance of inner world.
