Pathological analysis of AIDS patients co-infected with Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis

Objective:The clinical data of 58 cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS)co-infected with Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis were reviewed and analyzed to increase the understanding of AIDS and Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis co-infection.Methods:Fifty eight cases of AIDS co-infected with Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis admitted from September 2008 to December 2010 were retrospectively reviewed.Results:All the fifty eight cases with Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis were AIDS patients at advanced stage.T-lymphocyte subpopulation was tested in 58 cases:CD+450×106/L in 9 cases;CD+4(50～100)×106/L in 32 cases;CD+4(100～200)×106/L in 17 cases.Opportunistic infection was established when AIDS was confirmed.Conclusion:The clinical condition is serious with poor outcome in AIDS patients co-infected with Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis.Laboratory test result is the major evidence for diagnosis of Cryptococcus neoformans meningitis.
