A continuous cooling transformation diagram(CCT) of XER70S-6 steel reduced by 50% at 1030oC and cooled suddenly to 880oC was obtained through simulating experiment on THERMECMASTOR-Z thermomechanical testing system. The microstructure of the steel after being cooled was determined by the use of the optical microscope Leica Q550.The results of experiment show that the microstructure of low carbon steel which has been cooled from austenitized temperature consists of chiefly coarse ferrite and a small amount of pearlite.Increase in cooling rate will cause decrease in the starting temperature of transformation, shortening of the duration of transformation, refining of the structure as well as disappearance of the pearlite and formation of bainite and martensite.
