摘要
A dark blue substrate-free pearlescent pigment based on belt-like VO 2 (B) (6.2 μm × 680 nm) was successfully fabricated using a two-step hydrothermal synthesis. The resulting VO 2 (B) shows an impressive pearlescent effect, which is attributed to its belt-like morphology and smooth particle surface. Furthermore, VO 2 (B) exhibits good compatibility with the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix. Even at a low concentration of 0.5 wt%, VO 2 (B) imparted a dark-blue coloration to the PMMA matrix. • Novel substrate-free pearlescent pigments based on VO 2 (B) were synthesized. • The synthesized VO 2 (B) exhibits a dark-blue color. • High gloss units and vivid iridescent colors characterize the VO 2 (B) pigments. • The pearlescent effect is attributed to the belt-like morphology and smooth surfaces. • The compatibility of VO 2 (B) with PMMA polymer was evaluated.
