Objective To observe the effects of butyric acid(BA) and all trans retinoic acid(ATRA) on the proliferation of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cell line in vitro .Methods After treating A549 cells with BA,ATRA,or BA and ATRA,growth curves were drawn and MTT chromatometry was used to analyse the cell proliferation of A549.Results Flat growth curves,decreased proliferation rate and doubling time were found in the A549 cells exposed to BA,ATRA.After 72h and 120h exposure,the rate of growth suppression increased with a dose dependent pattern.Compared with single treatment(BA or ATRA) of the cells,even higher growth suppression was found when A549 was exposed to BA and ATRA together over 72h(72.77±2.54)% and 120h(84.03±1.58)%.Conclusions Compared with ATRA,BA might play an almost same role to inhibit the proliferation of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cell line;BA and ATRA could reinforce their inhibiting effect each other on the A549 cell proliferation.
