The maximum stress intensity factors for a crack parallel to an interface are investigated.By using the body force method and Green's functions the solution is obtained.Generally the maxi-mum stress intensity factor will be functions of the distance between crack and interface,and elastic modulus ratio.Moreover,distributions of stress intensity factors are indicated in tables and figures with varying the shape of crack,distance from the interface,and elastic constants.Meanwhile,the effect of crack shape on the stress intensity factors in term of root area is investigated.It is found that the stress intensity factors are mainly controlled by the root area parameter.Here the results of an ellipti-cal crack parallel to interface will be used to investigate the maximum stress intensity factors of arbi-trary 3D cracks.
