On the Respiration and Glycolysis in Epidermal Carcinoma of the Uterine Cervix

Respiration and glycolysis (anaerobic and aerobic) in homogenates from seven cases of epidermal carcinoma and one case of adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix were investigated. The malignant tissues were characterized by a high anaerobic and aerobic glycolysis and by a low level of respiration. The numerical indexes between anaerobic and aerobic glycolysis and respiration were 5 - 6.9 and 5.1 - 9.2 respectively, showing a low Pasteur effect. The results show that the competition between respiration and glycolysis ends up at full advantage of glycolysis.
