STEREOSELECTIVE FORMATION OF SOME THIETANE 1,1-DIOXIDES VIA SULFENES BY THE REACTION OF DIAZO COMPOUNDS WITH SULFUR DIOXIDE

Abstract In the reaction of diazo compounds with sulfur dioxide, trapping experiment by enamines indicates the existence of sulfene as a reaction intermediate. The stereochemistry of the sulfene-enamine cycloadducts and the solvent effect upon the stereoselectivity gave a suggestive information on the mechanism of the cycloaddition reaction.
