摘要
Broker behavior is a consequential, largely-uncharted topic; an exciting arena for future research. We know network brokerage is associated with success, but we worry about collateral damage to exploited colleagues. Given the intellectual context sketched below, we believe that the 2019 Academy meetings are a propitious occasion to address several questions for future research, informed by contemporary empirical research: (1) Are network brokers any more likely to behave badly than people in closed networks? (2) Do different types of brokerage lead to differences in the extent of bad behavior? (3) Is broker bad behavior governed by the surrounding social system any differently from the way governance is exercised over the bad behavior of people in closed networks?
