The Panopticon designed by Bentham in 1791 signifies that an observer who dominates the gaze in a certain space is allowed to watch more than the subjects and is able to monitor them. This panoptic surveillance system has been bound up with power and institutionally widespread throughout all the places where required being increased the utility. Though modern technique began to graft CCTV onto the existing system and the concept has expanded to Synopticon, Super Panopticon, etc, it hasn’t proved yet that how the Panopticon correlates with the changed conditions of the time. The purpose of this study is to find out how the 18th century’s surveillance skill is applied in modern buildings.
