Abstract A theoretical study of adsorption peaks in linear potential sweep voltammetry is presented for a reversible electrochemical reaction 0 + ne ⇄ R, followed by one of the chemical reactions 2R → Z (I); 0 + R → Z (II); R → Z (III). Criteria are given which allow a distinction to be made among diverse dimerization mechanisms. The rate constant of the chemical reaction can be determined on the basis of the theory.
