Na+, Cl-, K+, and blood urea nitrogen levels do not influence the initial management of major trauma patients. In patients with severe blunt injury, hemoglobin, glucose, blood gas, and lactate measurements occasionally result in morbidity-reducing or resource-conserving management changes.
