[Objective] To explore the safety, feasibility and the nutrition and immunonutrition effect of early postoperative enteral nutrition with glutamine in patients with gastroenteric tumor. [Methods] Forty five patients with gastroenteric tumor were randomized to be divided into two groups and received enteral nutrition with glutamine(GLN group, n=35) and enteral nutrition (EN group). GLN group received the enteral nutrition with glutamine 18 h after operation, and the EN group received the enteral nutrition 48~72 h after operation. The body weight, operative complications, total protein, albumin, prealbumin, siderophilin, IgG, IgM, IgA, CD4, CD8, CD4/CD8 and hospital dayes were observed. [Results] No patient had the complications and death. The level of prealbumin, siderophilin, IgA, CD4, CD8 were significantly higher and the hospital dayes were significantly lower in GLN group than those in the EN group. [Conclusions] Using early postoperative enteral nutrition with glutamine in patients with gastroenteric tumor is safe and effective. It is beneficial to the recovery of gastrointestinal function and effective after gastrointestinal operation and has a positive role in improving the patientg nutritional status.
