Directed molecular evolution (laboratory evolution or evolutionary biotechnology) can simulate natural evolutionary mechanism (mutation, recombination and selection) in vitro and evolve enzyme as desired. The idea of directed molecular evolution is the extension and use of Darwinian Theory at molecular level. The application of evolutionary and combinatorial techniques to study and solve complicated biological and chemical problems has become one of the most dynamic fields in chemistry and biology.
