Progress on Activation and Application to Wood Adhesives of Lignin

As a natural polymeric organic substance,lignin is usually used to synthesize wood adhesives because of its phenolic structures.However,it is often activated before utilization with the demerit of low reaction activities.Except for the large amount of lignin from pulp and paper,the research shows that during wood degradation the brown-rotters leave a residue that consists mainly of modified lignin,which has great merits in synthesizing wood adhesives due to its special structure.Based on the problems in application of lignin adhesives,this paper summarizes the methods of activating the lignin,and the application of brownrotted lignin in wood adhesives.
