Integrative Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Interventional Oncology: A Comprehensive Review

The incidence and mortality associated with malignant tumors in China remain substantial, underscoring the critical need for effective strategies to improve quality of life and prolong survival among individuals diagnosed with cancer. Recent national healthcare policies have emphasized the importance of preserving, advancing, and incorporating traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) into clinical practice. Interventional oncology remains a cornerstone in the treatment of intermediate to advanced-stage malignancies; however, it is frequently associated with adverse drug reactions and procedure-related complications, including postoperative fever, nausea, vomiting, pain, and hepatotoxicity or nephrotoxicity. This review evaluates current evidence regarding the adjunctive application of TCM in the context of interventional oncology. Findings suggest that such integrative strategies may mitigate postoperative complications, support physiological recovery, and enhance overall well-being in patients undergoing cancer therapy. The incorporation of TCM into contemporary oncological interventions represents a potentially beneficial strategy for optimizing supportive care in cancer management.
