Reshaping China's Ecological Image: A Corpus-based Study of Discourse Construction of China's “Dual Carbon Goals”

Ecological image is an important aspect of a country's overall national image. To investigate the self- and other-shaped ecological image of China, this study has built corpus of Chinese and western news articles on China's “dual carbon goals” and conducted quantitative and qualitative discourse analysis under the discourse-historical approach from the perspective of major topics, intertextuality and discursive strategies. Findings show that China is generally constructed as a big responsible country in global green agenda, but there is still room for improving its capacity for image discursive construction to do better justice to its ecological endeavors.
