The energy dissipation structural design based on energy analysis method is a developing trend in the structural seismic design. But much work still remains to be done for applying energy- based design to practice. By comprehensive consideration of the current seismic design specifications and aiming to realizing the elastic under medium earthquake,we propose a design method of energy dissipation structures based on elasticity. A response spectrum of energy suitable for China is suggested by referring to the energy spectrum research data. The total input energy is calculated through the response spectrum of energy, and the effective damping ratios attached to the structure is set up to estimate the energy dissipated by the dampers,so the quantity of dampers could be determined. The design process is demonstrated through a practical example. The analysis results show that the design method is effective in energy dissipation, and can fulfill the basic elastic requirement.
