On the basis of reviewing domestic and foreign references concerned the recent status of ultrafiltration and pretreatment for drinking water purification are presented in this paper.Although ultrafiltration is an efficient disinfection process for removing pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and parasites, it is relatively ineffective in removing the natural organic matter because of its high molecular weight cutoff. Experiment demonstrate that, with the proper pretreatment, ultrafiltration can remove not only the majority of particulate matter from a natural water but also a large fraction of dissolved organic matter and THMFP.
