Research Review on Chemical Constituents and Pharmacological Activities of Plants of Ilex L.

There are many active constituents in Ilex L.,such as triterpenes and triterpenoid saponins,flavonoids,coumarins,lignans,etc.They have the pharmacological activities of protecting cardiovascular system, antitumor,anti-inflammation,antibacteria,reducing blood pressure and blood lipid.A number of species among them have been used as folk medicine.This article which reviewed the studies on the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities in recent 6 years will be beneficial to reveal the relatives among these medicinal plants in the Ilex L.and be helpful to develop new drugs.
