Development of a chemiluminescence method for determination of phenol based on N-bromosciccinimide and Rhodamine B

A novel flow injection chemiluminescence method for the determination of phenol was described.The method is based on the chemiluminescence(CL) reaction of phenol with N-bromosciccinimide in sodium hydroxide medium,sensitized by the fluorescent dye rhodamine B.The proposed procedure allows quantitation of phenol in the concentration range 1.0×10~(-3)mg/L~5.0 ×10~(-1) mg/L(ΔI = 334.1 C + 5.237,C:mg/L,r~2= 0.9985),with a detection limit of 5.7×10~(-4) mg/L(3σ).The relative standard deviation(RSD) is 2.7% for 1.0×10~(-2) mg/L phenol(n = 9).The method was successfully applied to the determination of phenol in environmental water samples.
