A strain of bacteria with an ability of degrading mathamidophos was isolated from soil samples obtained in fields that had been frequent receiving organophosphate pesticides. We have discovered that the strain was able to utilize mathamidophos as carbon sources for its growth. When the strain was cultured in a mineral salt medium containing 100 mg·L-1 the insecticide and incubated at 30 ℃ with shaking(150 r·min-1) for 4 weeks, approximately 46.31% of the pesticide was degraded.
