The role of oxygen in the synthesis of the Mo2CTx MXene from the Mo2Ga2C MAX phase

During the synthesis of the Mo 2 C MXene by etching out the Ga layers of the Mo 2 Ga 2 C MAX phase, the presence of oxygen may promote the separation of the Mo 2 C layers and their transition to an ABA atomic layer stacking phase.
