Side effects of sedatives and hypnotics

Side Effects of Drugs Annual is an annual publication including the most recently published adverse effects and toxicities associated with sedatives and hypnotics. The series supplements the contents of Meyler's Side Effects of Drugs: The International Encyclopedia of Adverse Drug Reactions and Interactions. This is a review of current literature published between January 2022 and December 2022, including any publications regarding the sedative-hypnotic medications daridorexant, eszopiclone, lemborexant, midazolam, ramelteon, remimazolam, suvorexant, zolpidem, and zopiclone. Articles that were prioritized for inclusion focused on newly reported adverse effects or those that provided new information about previously known effects. Notable themes published in 2022 included effects on cognition and driving, psychiatric adverse effects such as suicide, and risk of substance misuse.
