Application of PDCA cycle in improving the position competencies of nurses in the emergency department

Objective To discuss the effects of PDCA cycle in improving the position competencies of nurses in the Department of Emergency. Methods Influencing factors of the position competencies of nurses in the Department of Emergency were analyzed using the fish bone diagram. A continuing quality improvement (CQI) team was set up in March 2015. PDCA cycle management was applied in the planning, implementation, examination and management to carry out the continuous improvement of position competencies of nurses and effectiveness evaluation. Results After the application of PDCA cycle, work attitude assessment, theory knowledge, nursing skills assessment of 42 nurses were significantly improved when compared to those before the application of PDCA cycle (P<0.05) . Conclusions Application of PDCA cycle can effectively improve the position competencies of nurses in the emergency department, increase the quality of nursing in critical patients, ensure the safety of patients, and is worthy of promotion.
