Biocatalytic Entry to Enantiomerically Pure β-Amino Acids

This chapter is comprised of a systematic review of literature, 1995 to present, describing innovative methods designed for the isolation of enatiopure β-amino acids from the corresponding racemic mixtures. These methods of resolution are rather challenging due in part to the fact that the biocatalysts employed have evolved to promote transformations of naturally occurring compounds other than β-amino acids. However, many have pursued research in this field due to the impact that successful procedures may have on organic, medicinal, and biochemistry.
