A Brief Account of Sociolinguistics

This article gives a brief account of sociolinguistics,based on the following aspects——the social background against which sociolinguistics came into being,the five stages in its development,the fields it explores,the classification of it,the achievements owed to several noted linguistics and the research methods applied in this subject.
