In order to study the influence of hydrogen sulfide on corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement and to explore the corrosion mechanism in hydrogen sulfide environments,45#steel was immersed in solutions containing different concentrations of H2 S for various hours. The changes of the hardness, the thickness of the corroded layer, the thickness of the permeation layer and the thickness of the layer affected by hydrogen embrittlement were studied. The results show that the hardness of the specimen first increased and then decreased until it was restored to the original hardness after the material subjected to the corrosion of hydrogen sulfide.Solution containing H2 S can induce two effects of corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement. It was found that the effect of the H2 S hydrogen embrittlement was the most significant after 48himmersion,and the effect of the corrosion was the most significant after 96h immersion.
