A Cytosolic Adaptor Protein-FADD

FADD/MORT1 is a cytosolic adaptor protein whi ch is critical for signalling from CD95 (Fas/APO 1) and other members of the tu mour necrosis factor receptor (TNF R) family. Its C terminal death domain binds to the corresponding domain of the death receptor,FADD in turn rec ruits the protease procaspase 8 through homophilic interaction of death effecto r domains and to trigger the apoptosis pathway. Apart from its role in apoptosis, mouse gene knockout studies have indicated that FADD is also involved in other biology processes.
