The aerobic de-nitrification strain WXZ-8,belonging to Bacillus cereus, was cultured and isolated in the lab,and then was studied with respect to its heterotrophic nitrification function by measuring the gaseous products (N2O and N2) using GC-ECD and GC-TCD.A comparative study was carried out in order to investigate whether the air within the air-proof flask could provide enough O2 to sustain the whole nitrification process,i.e,one flask was filled with air and the other flask with pure oxygen. The finding of the experimental study showed that Strain WXZ-8 was an effective heterotrophic nitrification bacterial strain for removing ammonium from water with limited emission of N2O;and pure O2 cultural condition was better in controlling emission of N2O.
