Underlying patient comorbidities, combined with perioperative hemodynamic fluctuations, increase cardiac surgery patients’ vulnerability to acute kidney injury (AKI). As many as 80% of cardiac surgery patients may have stage 1 or greater CSA-AKI according to the strict, consensus-based guidelines published by the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) group.
