The effect of mobile application-based home-visiting education on nursing students’ home-visiting information and competence levels

Objective: The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the effect of home-visiting education, which was based on showing videos through a mobile application, on nursing students' home-visiting information and competence levels. Design and Sample: The study is a randomized controlled trial with pretest and post-test evaluations. The research was conducted with the participation of 55 students who were taking the public health nursing course. Students were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 27) and control group (n = 28). Mobile application-based home-visiting education was given to the intervention group in the classroom setting. Results: Following the mobile application-based home-visiting education, students in the intervention group (55.41 ± 5.87) obtained a higher mean home-visiting competence score than students in the control group (48.79 ± 7.41), and this difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Moreover, the mean self-confidence and satisfaction scores of the students in the intervention group were respectively found as 4.01 ± 0.65 and 3.98 ± 0.77 after mobile application-based home-visiting education. Conclusion: Home-visiting education, which was based on showing videos through a mobile application, was found to be effective in increasing students' home-visiting information and competence.
