Research and Development efforts on marine \nfisheries of the country have contributed to a rapid \ngrowth of literature. However, no attempts have so \nfar been made to develop bibliographies on commercially \nimportant species/groups of marine fishes of India, \nso that the large community of research workers and \nfishery managers could be benefited. Therefore, to \nbegin with, the Central Marine Fisheries Research \nInstitute has taken up a programme of compilation \nof 'Annotated Bibliographies' on major commercially \nimportant fisheries like those of prawns, oil sardine, \nmackerel, silver-bellies, ribbon-fishes and Bombay-duck.
