Tests on location

This chapter presents nonparametric tests for the location parameter. Under one sample tests, it deals with the question if the median of a population differs from a predefined value. The most straightforward test is the sign test. However, if a symmetric distribution can be assumed, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test is a better alternative. The chapter also shows how to perform two sample and K-sample nonparametric tests on the location parameter in SAS and R. The appropriate sample codes namely, SAS and R codes, are given to perform all the discussed tests.
