UPSO: A Unified Particle Swarm Optimization Scheme

We introduce Unified Particle Swarm Optimization, a new scheme that harnesses the local and global variants of the standard Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm, combining their exploration and exploitation abilities. Convergence in probability can be proved for the new approach in unimodal cases and preliminary results justify its superiority against the standard Particle Swarm Optimization.
