HDL cholesterol and interstitial lung abnormalities: metabolism, ageing, and early pulmonary fibrosis

Interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA) are relatively common findings on chest computed tomography (CT) that in some cases are precursors to clinically significant fibrotic lung disease [1]. ILA prevalence ranges from 3% to 10% in lung cancer screening and smoking-enriched cohorts [2], and as lung cancer screening is more widely implemented, ILA are being detected with increasing frequency.
