Abstract Due to vivid challenges for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds such as maximizing efficiency, high yield, controlled‐ stereochemistry, high purity, and ecofriendly synthetic methods, nanomaterials, and nanocatalysis have gained much attention as highly efficient alternatives to conventional materials. Herein, the development of functionalized benzofuran by using sustainable green synthetic approaches, for instance , nanomaterial‐based catalysis in presence of novel metal nanoparticles (NPs), bimetallic NPs, graphene‐supported metals, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), and porous organic polymers (POPs) have been demonstrated. Moreover, the role of nanomaterials, mechanistic approaches during the catalysis and advantages of nanocatalysis over conventional methods have also been discussed.
