A Study of Translation Equivalence in Terms of Narrative Perspective Between the Original Version and its Four Translation Versions of The Old Man and the Sea

Narrative perspective is a very important concept in narratology. It is of great significance to make researches on this subject. Furthermore, it is pioneering to make a contrastive study between the novel’s original version and its translation versions in terms of narrative perspective. By adopting the research approach of close reading, this paper explores the unique skill of Hemingway’s using and transferring of narrative perspectives in his masterpiece The Old Man and the Sea and also makes contrastive analysis of some translations from its four Chinese versions. With the analysis ,the paper attempts to present how well the translators grasp the original text and the skills used by the author; illustrates that the success of the translation relies on keeping consistence with the original text during the process of translation;and also points out that translators should pay more attention to narrative perspectives of the original text and try to keep with them in their translation and realize the translation equivalence so that the reader of the translation versions can appreciate the exact style of the original text and have a better understanding.
