Stigma is defined as a sign of disgrace of discredit, which sets a person apart from others. The paper outlines some of the themes that emerge from stigma research, describes the origins of stigma, the basic content of stigma, types and dimensions of stigma, functions of stigmatizing others.Rather than describing stigma in terms of its key structural elements of functions, the paper proposes an alternative, complementary perspective that attempts to locate the study of stigma within the larger context of general social-psychological processes. On the basis of the survey of the relative studies, this paper points out the limits of the studies. Then the author proposes a model named Stigma Static-Dynamic Model(SSDM) to explain the stigma.
