The fracture behaviors during hydrogen charging of Fe-3 %Si single crystal was studied by low strain rate tension. The experiments included tension in air, tension during dynamically charging and charging after certain pre-strain. The results indicated that hydrogen induced cracking can occur only when the sample deformed during charging. That is, deformation is a necessary condition for hydrogeninduced cracking and hydrogen induced cracking results from the interaction between hydrogen and dislocation.
