Induced Cytokinesis Generates Highly Proliferative Mononuclear Cardiomyocytes at the Expense of Contractility

These results collectively demonstrate that cytokinesis failure mediates cardiomyocyte multinucleation and cell cycle exit of postnatal cardiomyocytes, but may be a protective mechanism to preserve the contractile function of the myocardium.
