Designing innovations for and with human flourishing: A research agenda

Considering how design can make new and impactful contributions to innovation, I propose a research agenda on designing innovations for and with human flourishing, or individual and collective well-being. Human flourishing is ultimately humanity's highest good. The agenda consists of two paths to produce critical knowledge on the interfaces of design, innovation, and human flourishing. Path A focuses on how design develops innovations to generate human flourishing, whether for consumers, businesses, or societies. Path B examines ways human flourishing is effectively supported and applied by designers and organizations to create superior innovations. By pursuing these two paths, scholars will gain important insights that promise to advance not only design practice and philosophy but also the well-being of humankind.
