Slender vertical structures such as tall buildings, antennamasts, and towers are very sensitive to wind actions thatgive rise to large dynamic response. Due to the complexnature of wind turbulence, it is complicated to modelanalytically the wind-induced responses of slenderstructures. Current wind codes provide different modelsto evaluate dynamic responses but are limited to basicassumptions. This paper presents a general formulationto evaluate the buffeting displacement of slender verticalstructures in the along-wind direction, considering theeffects of different turbulent components. An applicationfor a real structure will illustrate the theory and pointout the limitation of conventional approaches.
