STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND SEEDCOAT COLOUR OF YELLOW-SEEDED RAPE ( BRASSICA NAPUS L.)

The yellow-seeded rape ( Brassica napus L.) hybrid Yuhuang No1 was grown at 7 ecological sites differing in longitude and latitude. The color of seedcoat seemed to be associated with latitude. Seedcoat color became lighter in tint as the latitude of cultivation moved northward, suggesting that less pigment is synthesized in seedcoat in high latitude areas than in low latitude areas.
