OBJECTIVE: To explore a simple and rapid new method to identify Radix Codonopsis.METHODS: A simple and rapid FTIR method of high-resolution was employed to detect the non-separated and non-extracted powder samples,and the lobetyolin in the sample of different growing years was determined by HPLC.RESULTS: The quality of Radix Codonopsis of different growing years could be characterized by absorption peaks at 1 739 cm-1 and 870 cm-1~770 cm-1;the number,shape and the relative intensity of the absorption peak at 1 426cm-1~1 250 cm-1 can be used to identify Radix Codonopsis from different habitats.CONCLUSION: FTIR can be used for convenient and rapid identification of Radix Codonopsis of different growing years and it can provide relevant information of Radix Codonopsis.
