The present research used the attentional cueing task to examine and analyze the gender stereotype's impact on the attention processes, including attentional engagement and disengagement. The result indicated that the activation of the gender stereotyping process facilitated the attentional engagement by female stereotypic traits in the valid trial. However, this effect disappeared in the invalid trial.Further investigation of the value of disengagement showed a difficulty in attentional disengagement of the male stereotypic traits. This research gives an evidence that the gender stereotype has an interaction with the attentional engagement and disengagement and shows a processing discrepancy in different attentional stages via gender difference.
