Lithium manganate spinel is becoming the basic cathode material of Li-ion cells in the future.The problem is that the capacity is degraded in cycling,which restricts it to be commerecialized.The capacity fade can be ascribed to manganese dissolution,Jahn-Teller effect and electrolyte decomposition.Surface modification is an important way to improve the stability of spinel LiMn_2O_4,So,the researches on degradation mechanism and surface modification of lithium manganese oxide spinel in recent years are reviewed.
