Chemical Induction of Perfect Flowers on a Gynoecious Line of Muskmelon, Cucumis melo L.1

Abstract Perfect flowers were induced on a gynoecious line of muskmelon with foliar applications of 5-methyl-7-chloro-4-ethoxycarbonylmethoxy-2, 1, 3-benzothiadiazole (MCEB) at the 4th leaf stage. Following hand-pollination, fruit was set, and seed developed. This method permits maintenance of gynoecious lines for the production of Fj hybrid muskmelon seed.
